Fitness Fridays! – High Intensity Interval Workout

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is a method of exercise incorporating bouts of high-intensity exercise with medium-intensity recovery periods. It’s a great way to get in a quick, yet effective workout. And what Mom doesn’t appreciate getting the most bang for her buck? Studies show that these short, intense workouts improve our ability to burn fat and increase our metabolism. So try this HIIT workout on for size:

What you will need: Head over to your local high school track.

Warm-Up: Walk or Jog for 5-10 minutes to elevate your heart rate and warm up your muscles.

Work-Out: “Straight-Aways and Curves”

1. Sprint the straight-away of the track.
2. Jog along the “curve” of the track.
3. Do a combination of 2 or 3 drills along on the opposite straight-away of the track. I chose High-Knees; Bounding; and Skipping.
4. Jog along the “curve” of the track.

Try to do 2-6 laps, depending on your fitness level.
