Party Over Here! – A Baby Woodland Shower

dessert table

I love volunteering my organizational prowess and primitive photoshop skills for parties. It’s a creative outlet that reminds me that I can do something other than change diapers. This party was particularly dear to me because it was my childhood friend, Jackie’s, baby shower. Jackie envisioned a baby woodland-themed party so I tried my best to create a magical forest that would make even Bambi proud.

My first step? Hitting Pinterest, of course. I would be nothing without Pinterest and Etsy! I scoured these  resources for DIY printables and decor ideas. Here’s a list of my findings.

Invitation by Smash Cake & Co. This set the tone for the whole shower. We pulled the birch tree bark from these invites and used it as the centerpieces.

Centerpiece glasses were purchased from Ikea. Jackie’s mother-in-law gathered pine cones, branches, leaves and other pieces on her daily walks at a nearby park. They then hot glued the pieces to the vases with jute and added baby’s breath flowers. Burlap table runners, pine needle branches, tea light candles and a 8 in birch slab completed the look. We topped it off with little forest animal printables that I bought from Etsy. We printed the baby animals out and hot glued them to kebab sticks.

These little forest animal jpgs were adorable! They lightened up the party decor and gave it more of a fun, baby feeling. I felt like we needed to add another pattern to complete the look so I searched for a print that would complement the decor.

I envisioned a chevron print and found one!! This was from Blog.WorldLabel.com’s Woodland Roses Design. It was free!

I really enjoyed reading the wishing tree cards from my own baby shower. Each entry was so touching and funny. I wanted to create one for Jackie.  The rustic picture frames added a nice touch that tied in our birch decor.

We used a streamer background and pennant flag garland with baby Kai’s name as a backdrop for the dessert table. I created the flag in photoshop and used the chevron print as anchoring pieces.

We bought a chocolate cake from Costco and fellow Milk & Mascara blogger, Jennie, baked a german chocolate cake to go on top of it. We decorated it with more print outs and created a small pennant flag garland with the kebab sticks and twine to adorn it.

Did I mention what a great baker Jennie is? She also made baby acorns out of vanilla wafers and hershey kisses and the yummy chocolate dipped marshmallow ‘mushrooms’.

What do you think about the diaper cake I made out of the printouts in the picture above!?

Jackie was extremely pleased with the way the shower turned out. Thank you Pinterest and Etsy!

Be happy,

Jenelle
